First Time Night Flying At Mereside Model Club Flying Field

Paul put the lights on his two planes and waited for the day light to disappear. There was Paul,Stuart and myself (John Smith) left at the field, The video on the left was shot at 17.38pm  and it was darker than Stuarts phone made it out to be. I Shot the Video on the right at 17.56pm when the light had disappeared completely.

Paul said he was nervous and he flew the planes really well and they lived to fly another day.

For more than two decades, RealFlight® has been the #1 RC flight simulator in the world! It's the absolute best tool new RC pilots can use when learning how to fly. It also makes it possible for experienced RC pilots to practice new manoeuvres and hone their skills so they can become even better pilots. Plus, it's the best way to "try" new Horizon Hobby and other models before you buy them!

ATTENTION MEMBERS   - All you need to  know in one place. Videos, Q and A's

The most important step for any beginner pilot is the 'A' test, It shows you have the ability to fly on your own.

The club offers a training capability for new and existing members to take them through their A test. Members who want support should make contact with an appropriate trainer and arrange suitable times to meet at the field.

Are you an experienced flyer, or an absolute beginner?

Mereside Model Club flies from a secure, private site in Lathom.
The car parking is adjacent to the flying site, with vehicle access to the pits to unload models.

The grass runway is approx. 220 meters long, 20 meters wide and is regularly mowed and rolled.(The car park has just been extended on April 19th 2023).
A club Whats App group lets members liaise, to arrange meeting up to go flying.
The club is affiliated to the British Model Flying Association and has BMFA approved flight instructors and examiners, so we are able to  provide tuition for your BMFA ‘A’ and ‘B’ proficiency certificates and then carry out the examination on our flying site, so you feel comfortable with your surroundings.
The club secretary keeps members informed, via the monthly MMC newsletter (New for 2023), news bulletins and the news panel on this
Across the membership, we have a wealth of knowledge covering building techniques, radio installation and IC and electric power, so there is always someone to answer questions about model builds, radio installation and engine and motor set-up.
We aim to run annual social events for members in 2023, including Fun Fly competitions, Summer BBQ, winter talks and demonstrations
of various modelling skills.
If you are a complete beginner, we would love you to come and spend a day with one of our instructors and have a Free Trial Flight with one of our flying club model planes. It`s really not as difficult as it looks! Use the contact page or contact number on the top left of this page and
arrange your trial flight now!
